I think friendship should come in stages. You need and acquire different kinds of people as you grow older. The friend you had when you were six is very unlikely to be the friend you need when you are twenty. I have been lucky enough to have a wonderful string of friends. My childhood best friend, my secondary school best friend and my college best friend. All wildly different people but each wonderful in their own way. There were difficult times with each but they all taught me something new about myself. I am no longer in contact with any of them for a variety of reasons, some I don’t understand but some I do. This makes me sad occasionally but I realise that I am no longer the person they need and instead of laboring over friendships that no longer work, I like to remember the times when they were my world. And I would like to thank them and hope that I helped them and much as they helped me.
